Encontramos, en el blog 'Brújulas y espirales', una nueva y elogiosa reseña de 'Antes de las jirafas', de Matías Candeira: "Matías Candeira (1984) no es una joven promesa de la narrativa en español, sino un autor ya consolidado y con un caudal bien surtido de originalidad y calidad.(..) Lo realmente relevante en su narrativa es su originalidad. La hechura de sus relatos es inédita, no se parece a la de ningún otro cuentista."

Y en el blog 'Estado Crítico', titulan la reseña 'Cuentos asombrosos', y dicen esto sobre el libro y el autor: "hay un talento literario importante sin aparentes límites creativos, pues el material del que están construidos sus textos es infinito. No obstante, si bien simpatizamos con los referentes temáticos de Candeira y su destreza escritora, su Antes de las jirafas presenta un problema grave de expectativas, ya que empieza tan fuerte -con ese monumento que me ha parecido "El extraño"- que todo lo que viene después es como un globo desinflándose. Nos hubiera gustado bautizar a Matías Candeira (estábamos predispuestos a ello) como la gran esperanza blanca de la literatura de este país, pero vamos a tener que esperar todavía un poquito más. Falta que nos entregue una obra compacta en la que no sólo los cuentos sean asombrosos temáticamente hablando, sino que el asombro venga de la propia colección en su conjunto. Pero de momento le compramos la postura, el envoltorio y la escritura. Elementos éstos que ya les gustaría tener consolidados a muchos de sus compañeros de generación."

Creo que la gente necesita muchísimo su intimidad y que sale a la calle con un porte elegante y autosuficiente, pero en cuanto le haces unos arrumacos, empieza a ronronear, pidiéndole que le cuiden y que le acaricien. Quiero mostrar esa doble cara de la gente, una característica que compartimos con los gatos. La gente se piensa que te van a atacar cuando menos te lo esperas porque parecen autosuficientes y fríos, pero en realidad son todo lo contrario y quienes tenemos gatos lo sabemos. Me interesaba esa dualidad entre lo que mostramos y lo que realmente somos."

This week we are more than glad to announce that another title by Thiele Verlag is starting to gain international attention as Editorial Espasa has acquired World Spanish rights of Ich wünsche mir, dass endlich mal was Schönes passiert (I Wish Something Nice Would Happen At Last), by Trixi von Bülow, for publication in the Fall 2012. The novel was originally published in Germany by Thiele Verlag in February 2012 (the paperback will be published by Drömer Knaur).

Lots Happened to Me After I Died, by Ricardo Adolfo, was selected as the first and leading title in Portuguese language to be published by Alfaguara Portugal, the Portuguese branch of Santillana Group (Spain), launched in September 2009.

A young couple and their son, recently arrived illegal immigrants in a big city, are left stranded halfway home when their tube train breaks down. It soon becomes clear they don’t know any alternative route home – and nor can they ask for help as they don’t speak a word of the local language.

Confused, they walk through streets carrying their son inside a newly bought suitcase that doubles as a pram. By turns they are chased by two frightened women in hijab, abandoned by a runaway bus driver, robbed by a gang of street kids, and finally end up stealing a spare sleeping bag from a homeless man.
